Uganda Army Chief Sparks Controversy by Demanding $1 Billion and ‘Beautiful Woman’ from Turkey

Uganda’s army chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba has triggered a fresh wave of controversy on the international stage after making unusual demands directed at Turkey through social media posts.

In a series of statements, he called on Turkey to pay $1 billion in compensation and also demanded that the country provide its “most beautiful woman” for him to marry.

His remarks did not stop at financial compensation; the inclusion of a highly personal and unusual condition quickly drew widespread attention and criticism.

Kainerugaba further warned that if his demands were not met within 30 days, Uganda could shut down the Turkish embassy in its capital, Kampala, and potentially sever diplomatic ties between the two countries.

It is worth noting that Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and currently serves as the head of the country’s defense forces. Such controversial statements are not new for him, as he has previously faced criticism for provocative remarks on social media.

As justification for his demands, he claimed that despite Uganda’s significant role in maintaining security in Africa, the country has not received adequate recognition or benefits. In particular, Ugandan troops have long been involved in ensuring security in Somalia as part of African Union missions.

He also alleged that Turkey has been benefiting economically from infrastructure projects in Somalia, especially in ports and airports, while Uganda has made major contributions to the region’s security. In that context, he described the demanded money as a form of “security dividend.”

However, his demand for a “beautiful woman” alongside financial compensation has drawn strong criticism internationally. Analysts say such remarks violate diplomatic norms and could negatively impact relations between the two countries.

Previously, in 2022, he had also made headlines by proposing marriage to Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, even offering 100 cows as a gift.

As of now, there has been no official response from Turkey. However, diplomatic circles are closely monitoring the situation.
