A Bangladeshi man was seriously injured after being attacked while attempting to cross illegally into India through the Haluaghat border area in Mymensingh. Following the incident, he was rescued and first taken to Mymensingh for treatment before being transferred to Dhaka due to the severity of his condition.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Tuesday (April 7) in the Butiyapara border area of the upazila, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
According to BGB sources, the injured individual has been identified as Anowar Hossain (45), a resident of Uttar Nalkura village. He reportedly crossed the border into Indian territory, allegedly for smuggling-related purposes. When he reached an area near the barbed-wire fence, he was attacked by a group of unidentified individuals.
As a result, he sustained critical injuries. After somehow returning to Bangladesh, his family members quickly took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. After receiving primary treatment there, his condition deteriorated, and he was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care. He is currently undergoing treatment at the facility.
BGB officials also stated that Anowar Hossain had previously been attacked multiple times while attempting illegal border crossings. Intelligence sources further indicate that he has been involved in several controversial activities in the border region.
The incident has once again raised concerns about border security and the risks associated with illegal cross-border movement.
