Body of Customs Officer Found Beside Highway in Cumilla

Police have recovered the body of a customs officer who had gone missing while returning to Cumilla from Chattogram after completing a training program. The body was found beside the Dhaka–Chattogram highway.

The body was recovered around 7:45 AM on Saturday (April 25) from a footpath beside a hotel in the Kotbari area of Cumilla, said Officer-in-Charge of Mainamati Highway Police Station, Md. Abdul Momin.

The deceased was identified as Bullet Bairagi (35), a resident of the Panpotti area in Cumilla city. He was working as an Assistant Revenue Officer in the Customs, Excise and VAT department.

According to family members, Bullet Bairagi had traveled to Chattogram on April 11 to attend the 44th basic training program. After completing the training, he boarded a Dhaka-bound bus around 11:00 PM on Friday, where he was supposed to get off at the Cumilla bypass.

At around 2:25 AM, he last contacted his family and informed them that he was nearing Cumilla city. However, his mother, Nilima Bairagi, said that his voice sounded somewhat unusual during that call.

When he did not return home after a long time, family members attempted to contact him, but his mobile phone was found switched off. Later, a general diary was filed at Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station on Saturday morning.

Police said the body was initially recovered as unidentified after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999. Later in the day, family members identified the body.

Preliminary observations did not reveal any major injury marks on the body, although there were some blood stains on the face. His mobile phone and other personal belongings were also missing.

Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, Touhidul Anwar, said the incident is being investigated with importance. The exact cause of death will be determined after completing legal procedures.
