A growing outbreak of diarrhea alongside measles in Barguna has sparked concern among residents, as increasing numbers of children and adults fall ill and require hospitalization. The surge in patients is putting significant pressure on the local healthcare system.
At Barguna General Hospital, the situation appears increasingly strained. The number of patients has risen to such an extent that many are being treated on the floor due to a shortage of available beds. A notable increase has been observed particularly among children admitted with symptoms of diarrhea.
In a recent case, an eight-year-old child was hospitalized after suffering from severe stomach complications. According to the child’s family, repeated episodes of loose motion within a short period quickly worsened the condition. Incidents like this have left many families anxious and worried.
Hospital sources report that over the past week alone, more than a hundred people have received treatment for diarrhea, with children making up a large portion of the cases. During the same period, several hundred children were also treated for cold-related illnesses and respiratory issues.
The situation is not limited to hospitals. Across different parts of the district, the number of diarrhea cases continues to rise. Since the beginning of the year, health authorities estimate that several thousand people have been affected by the disease.
Meanwhile, the impact of dengue has not completely subsided. New cases are still being detected this year, further complicating the overall public health situation in the region.
Doctors believe that excessive heat, unsafe drinking water, and the consumption of stale food are major factors contributing to the spread of diarrhea. Poor hygiene and unhealthy eating habits are also increasing the risk of infection.
Health experts are urging residents to remain cautious by ensuring safe drinking water, maintaining food hygiene, and seeking medical attention promptly when symptoms appear. Without proper precautions, the situation could worsen further.
