Bangladesh’s international internet connectivity is expected to experience temporary pressure over the coming days. Maintenance work on the second submarine cable, SMW-5, installed in Kuakata, is scheduled to begin Thursday night (April 9) and could affect internet speeds across the country for up to three days.
In an official statement, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) announced that the maintenance period will run from 10:00 PM on April 9 until 6:00 AM on April 13. During this time, international circuits headed toward Singapore may experience partial disruptions.
As a result, users may encounter slower internet speeds or occasional connectivity interruptions. However, the company assured that alternative routes will remain operational to mitigate the impact. International connectivity will continue through the country’s first submarine cable, SMW-4, located in Cox's Bazar.
BSCPLC further stated that all necessary measures have been taken to complete the maintenance work within the scheduled period and restore normal service. Users have been advised to remain patient and prepare for potential temporary delays.
