Mystery Surrounds Death of 11-Year-Old Girl Found Hanging from Mango Tree in Noakhali

Police in southern Bangladesh have recovered the body of an 11-year-old girl found hanging from a mango tree near her home in Noakhali, in a case that has left residents shocked and searching for answers.

The incident took place on Sunday evening in a village under Dharmapur Union of Sadar upazila. The deceased, identified as Jannat Begum, was a sixth-grade student at a local school.

According to family members and local sources, both of Jannat’s parents are employed and were away at work earlier in the day. As part of their daily routine, they had left home in the morning, leaving Jannat alone. Her elder brother was reportedly attending a madrasa at the time.

Concern arose later in the evening when Jannat’s mother returned home and could not find her daughter inside the house. A search of the surrounding area followed. At one point, attention turned to a nearby mango tree, where she discovered her daughter’s body hanging with a rope tied around her neck.

Her cries quickly drew neighbours to the scene, and local residents gathered as news spread through the area.

Police were later informed and arrived at the location, recovering the body and taking it into custody. On Monday morning, the remains were sent to the Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

A senior officer from Sudharam Police Station said that a preliminary examination found no visible signs of injury on the child’s body. Family members were also unable to provide any clear explanation regarding the circumstances leading to her death.

Investigators say the exact cause will only be confirmed after the autopsy report is completed. An unnatural death case has been filed, and authorities have begun a formal inquiry.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief and concern over the local community. What began as an ordinary day ended in tragedy, raising difficult questions that remain unanswered as the investigation continues.
