Youth Hacked to Death in Ashulia Amid Dispute Over Drug Trade, Panic Spreads in Area

A young man has been brutally killed in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, in what authorities believe may be linked to a dispute over local drug trade activities, heightening fear among residents.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in the Ashulia area of Savar. The victim, identified as Faisal Molla, 35, was a resident of the Shrikhandia Molla Bari area and the son of local Krishak League leader Humayun Molla.

According to family members and local residents, the killing may have been triggered by Faisal’s opposition to ongoing drug trafficking in the area. Sources claim that a group had been operating a drug business inside a nearby housing project for a considerable period.

Family members allege that tensions escalated after Faisal confronted those involved and, at one point, temporarily took a mobile phone belonging to one of the suspects. Although the phone was later returned, the dispute reportedly continued.

Faisal’s father, Humayun Molla, said he had received a threatening phone call from an unidentified individual prior to the incident, warning that his son would be killed. Later that day, he learned that Faisal had been attacked with sharp weapons and killed.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports and recovered the body, which was sent for an autopsy. Initial assessments by law enforcement suggest that the killing may have resulted from a personal dispute or a conflict related to drug activities.

A sub-inspector at the Ashulia Police Outpost, Mahbubur Rahman, said authorities have identified prior disputes between the victim and several individuals. An investigation is now underway to determine those responsible and establish the exact motive behind the killing.

He added that preliminary findings suggest the victim himself may have had links to drug use, although officials stress that the matter remains under investigation and all aspects are being carefully examined.

Police said preparations are underway to file a murder case at Ashulia Police Station, while operations continue to identify and arrest those involved.

The killing has heightened concerns among local residents, many of whom are calling for stronger measures to control drug-related crime and improve overall security in the area.
