The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), under its newly formed ad-hoc committee, has taken several significant decisions shortly after assuming responsibility. In its second meeting, the board approved salary increases for both male and female cricketers and unveiled the structure of its standing committees.
At the meeting held on Wednesday (April 8), steps were taken to reduce the pay gap for female cricketers. Under the new structure, female players will receive BDT 10,000 for T20 matches, BDT 15,000 for One Day matches, and BDT 20,000 for four-day matches in domestic cricket. Additionally, the number of female cricketers under central contracts has been increased.
Major changes have also been introduced for male cricketers. Previously, players in Category A received BDT 35,000, Category B received BDT 30,000, and Category C received BDT 25,000. Under the revised structure, Category A players will now receive BDT 65,000, Category B players BDT 50,000, and Category C players BDT 40,000.
The meeting also finalized the distribution of responsibilities among the BCB’s standing committees. Various members have been assigned roles across departments such as cricket operations, game development, grounds management, marketing, women’s cricket, and finance.
BCB President Tamim Iqbal stated that one of their primary goals is to resume domestic cricket activities as soon as possible. Preparations are underway to restart the Premier League, and the board is also considering the use of alternative venues if necessary.
He further mentioned that, ahead of upcoming international series, energy efficiency is being taken into consideration. Plans are in place to adjust the schedules of One Day and T20 matches accordingly.
Overall, stakeholders believe that these decisions by the new committee are sending a positive signal across the cricketing community.
