The pace of nomination collection within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is increasing ahead of the election for reserved women’s seats. On the fifth day, 69 more potential candidates collected nomination forms, bringing the total number of applicants to 269 so far.
Officials from the Election Commission’s election management wing confirmed the matter on Monday (April 13).
The new applicants include women from diverse social and political backgrounds, indicating strong internal competition within the party over the reserved seats.
Earlier, on April 8, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament. According to the schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is April 21.
As per the timeline, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 22 and 23. The deadline for filing appeals is April 26, while appeals will be resolved on April 27 and 28. The last date for withdrawal of candidacy is April 29, and election symbols will be allocated on April 30.
Finally, voting is scheduled to be held on May 12.
Political observers believe that the high number of interested candidates reflects BNP’s organizational activity and its preparation for the upcoming election.
