MP Amir Hamza Served Another Legal Notice Over Controversial Remarks

A fresh legal notice has been served on Member of Parliament and Islamic speaker Mufti Amir Hamza, intensifying an ongoing controversy surrounding his recent public remarks.

The notice was sent on Monday through a lawyer at the Kushtia Judge Court by a local political figure from Sadar upazila. It demands that Hamza provide credible sources to support his allegations within a specified timeframe, warning that legal action will follow if he fails to do so.

The move comes in response to comments he reportedly made in late March during a speech at a mosque, where he alleged that large sums of money—amounting to tens of crores—are spent to secure the post of Deputy Commissioner in Kushtia. He also raised similar allegations regarding financial transactions tied to appointments within the police administration.

Video footage of his remarks quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread debate and drawing strong reactions from different quarters.

This is not the first time Hamza has faced legal scrutiny over such claims. In an earlier incident, he was also served with a legal notice demanding evidence for his allegations that a substantial bribe had been offered to keep Kushtia Medical College Hospital closed. The recurrence of similar allegations within a short period has further fuelled public discussion.

Legal observers say that making serious allegations in public requires supporting evidence, warning that unverified claims can lead to confusion and undermine public trust. They note that the legal notice appears to be an attempt to ensure accountability and verify the authenticity of the statements made.

As of now, no official response has been issued by Amir Hamza regarding the latest notice. Observers say attention is now focused on whether he will provide the requested evidence or face potential legal proceedings.

Lawyers suggest that failure to respond within the stipulated timeframe could result in the matter being taken to court, potentially adding a new dimension to the political and administrative debate surrounding the issue.
