Officials have warned that gusty or stormy winds may blow over the region at speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour. The forecast also indicates a likelihood of rain or thundershowers accompanying the strong winds.
On Sunday, the Meteorological Department issued a special advisory for inland river ports across the country, highlighting the potential impact on the Sylhet region in particular. The notice, signed by meteorologist Md. Abdul Hamid Mia, urged heightened caution due to changing weather conditions.
According to the forecast, the winds may originate from the west or northwest and could temporarily intensify into storm-like conditions. Such weather may disrupt normal daily activities in affected areas.
As a precaution, inland river ports have been instructed to display Signal No. 1, advising caution for vessels operating in rivers and waterways. Boat operators and relevant authorities have been urged to remain alert to avoid potential accidents.
Meteorologists explained that such weather patterns are common during seasonal transitions and may cause sudden increases in wind speed along with short bursts of heavy rain and lightning activity.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to avoid open spaces during the storm, seek shelter in safe locations, and refrain from river travel until conditions improve.
Although the weather disturbance is expected to be short-lived, the Meteorological Department has urged continued vigilance over the next several hours as conditions remain potentially unstable in the Sylhet region.
