Price of 12kg LPG Cylinder Rises to BDT 1,940

The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the private sector has been increased again in Bangladesh, marking the second hike within a month and adding new pressure on consumers.

According to the latest rate announced by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), the new prices came into effect from 6:00 PM on Sunday (April 19).

Under the revised rates, the price per kilogram of LPG has increased by BDT 17.62. As a result, the widely used 12kg cylinder now costs BDT 1,940, up from BDT 1,728. This means consumers will have to pay an additional BDT 212 per cylinder compared to the previous price.

Earlier in April, the price had already been increased by BDT 32.30 per kilogram. With two consecutive hikes within a single month, the cost of daily living has risen further for the general public.

Analysts say the adjustment reflects instability in the global energy market and rising import costs. However, the continued increase in prices is becoming a growing concern, particularly for low- and middle-income groups.
